More to what i was saying before about visibility, Google “Jonathan Gipaya
photography” and his squarespace site doesn’t even appear even though you
used his exact business name!! Crap website hosting.

  • Josh Leyva says:

A bit strange to hear Jared being so positive for a critique haha, but I
agree, loved the design as well as the photos from this portfolio.

what is this template thing (Forte/Ishimoto) mentioned ?

can anyone please explain me this?

  • Jared Polin says:

Please keep posting links to your websites for critiques right here. I do
look at them and will try to critique as many as possible.

I don’t know the difference between squarespace and wordpress, but I guess
people I different. I like wordpress better. Guess, because I’m use to
    it.

Hmmmm, great websites right up until you need some help from their customer
care division. Hopeless. I have had a major visibility issue with this
company and they just never bother to get back to me. I would say DO NOT
    USE THEM!

  • M Jones says:

LOL little pet peeve rant 5:55 Jared?

  • Sadie Leigh Schuck says:

    using squarespace.

  • Christopher McRae says:

WOW. The critique was my fave yet and Jonathan is now on my photo radar.
Stunning work in my favourite city.

  • Chris Kwok says:

Nice and punchy images. Going to Seattle in April. This made me that much
more excited to go! Maybe I’ll run into Jonathan and get a portrait of him!
    Haha

  • phynx2006 says:

Hahahahaha She does have great boots hahahaha

  • Razor2048 says:

Thats one of my favorite features of square space, the templates make good
use of java script, and the auto functionality for the width in the CSS
code. Most other template based sites, are quick to just use a 1280 width
page, with the main content forced into a 960px div.

with good scripting and CSS, you can create a single page that will look
good on a desktop monitor, while also adapting automatically to smaller
    displays.

Other than that, for web hosting, reliability has been increasing across
the board with the use of virtualized hosting. While it will not prevent
down time from a sudden hardware failure, it will prevent downtime due to
most maintenance, because with only a small temporary performance drop, a
virtual machine can still continue to run while the active state is copied
to another machine, before handing over the workload. So when they want to
update the host PS, or upgrade the server, they simply move all VM’s off,
then do what ever they have to do, then move them back again.

  • Daniel Lee says:

The line about the boots had me laughing so much

  • Daniel Pryce says:

For all the photographers starting out, learn design. Learn it, memorize
it, utilize it. Its the key to getting great photographs.
